Ernest Coxhead is credited with some 23 projects designed between 1890 and 1912 that are extant in San Francisco. His residential designs are hallmarks of the First Bay Area Tradition and include both small rustic city dwellings as well as large elegant town houses.
The non-residential designs include a rather wide variety of works. Some are ecclesiastical, and others include a branch library, a printing company, a funeral parlor, a hotel, and one of the most original office buildings in the city.
